Always loved. Never forgotten.
During World War II, the United States Army had a number of individuals and units responsible for testing and evaluating tanks. These individuals were typically members of the Army’s Ground Forces, and they were responsible for conducting a variety of tests on tanks in order to determine their suitability for use in combat.
The role of a tank tester in the United States Army during World War II would have involved conducting a wide range of evaluations on tanks, including tests of their mobility, firepower, armor protection, and overall reliability. These tests could be conducted on individual tanks, as well as on entire tank units or battalions.
Tank testers would have also been responsible for providing detailed reports on the results of their tests, which would be used to inform decisions about which tanks to use in combat, as well as to identify any areas for improvement. Tank testers may also have been responsible for training other soldiers on the proper use and maintenance of tanks, and for conducting repairs and modifications as needed.
